entry twenty five — scattered light, fractured grace: a quiet archive of light, loss & what remains

Violet Fractures
Violet veils
and midnight silhouettes,
where moonlight fractures
illusion into truth,
and even the most beautiful,
bewitching darkness cannot hide
what the soul is finally ready to see.
There is a particular kind of grace
in the moment an illusion finally fractures –
not because the truth arrives gently,
or because the things it reveals
are any less painful,
but because something within us
has finally grown quiet enough
to recognize what has been there all along.
We can spend so much of our lives
searching for meaning in the shadows,
finding beauty in what we cannot fully understand,
holding tightly to the versions of reality
that allow us to keep believing.
Sometimes, the darkness itself becomes enchanting.
We learn its contours,
give its mysteries names,
and build entire worlds around
what we hope might be true.
We mistake the comfort of not knowing
for peace,
and the beauty of possibility for evidence that what we see is real.
But even the most bewitching darkness cannot hold its shape forever.
There comes a moment
when the light finds its way through the fractures.
When the silhouettes remain,
but their outlines become unmistakable.
When what once seemed mysterious begins to make sense,
and what we once struggled to see becomes impossible to unsee.
The revelation may not change what happened, but it changes what we are able to understand.
Perhaps this is where grace begins –
not in the absence of pain,
nor in the immediate relief of finally knowing,
but in the willingness to stop asking reality to become something more comfortable.
To let what is real be real, even when it dismantles something we loved…
something we trusted…
something we desperately wanted to believe in.
The moon does not erase the shadows.
It illuminates them.
And sometimes, that is enough.
We do not always become ready to see the truth
because we are no longer afraid of what it might cost us.
Sometimes, we become ready
because the cost of continuing not to see
has finally become greater than the pain of knowing.
There is scattered light in every fracture.
There is grace in the pieces we gather
after an illusion falls away.
And there is a quiet, hard-won freedom
in allowing ourselves to see what is there, rather than what we wished had been.
Perhaps the darkness
was never ours to conquer.
Perhaps we only needed
to stop mistaking it for the light.

“scattered light, fractured grace” is a photography series from my art journaling journey about how light doesn’t always fall straight. Sometimes it fractures through memory, grief, and grace—and what was broken still glimmers. It is a collection of soft reckonings. Fragments, unfiltered, and written in the in-between.
